Not knowing what the conventions of a music video were I had to do some research of my own. (definitely not noted from the teachers psssssh.) In this research I looked at techniques, styles and very specific conventions that music videos usually have such as: Lyrical Interpretation, extending or consolidating song's meaning, allusion, collaborations, cutting to beat, visual techniques, miming/lip-syncing, chroma key, narrative, performance, relations between style and genre, and star image.
Based on my research I found the techniques, styles and conventions I might personally be using for the creation of the music video. Over the span of even a few seconds my opinion on my past self might change and therefore I might bring in or remove some of these items.
Styles: The style of the music video will tend to depend greatly on the genre of the music that it is created for.
For "Unlike Pluto - 8 Legged Dreams" the genre is somewhat dark and moody with confirmation from the artist saying: This song is about nightmares, CREEPY nightmares. There's is also no music video that accompanies the song, instead a still image of a spider crawling out of the bed sheets is placed on screen.
The Style I'll be going for will be an Illustrative/Interpretive one. It's the easiest style to use for the music video I have in mind. I'm also debating whether or not the music video I shall create will be a surrealist one: A song that pushes the boundaries between fantasy, dreams and reality.
I'll also use a lot of "Cutting to Beat" which is a technique that is used to cut the video or have some of the imagery react to the drop of a song or on beat.
Also with the use of green screen I'm hoping to be able to create visual effects such as: cobwebs!
And with all this there might be slight lip-sync to create a more realistic feel to the music video.
