For my music video I wanted (wanted is a strong word) to try out some filming and editing techniques I can use that would help me later on with the creation of the music video.
My initial research into conventions led me to think of creating an illustrative/interpretive music video with a bit of surrealism, using techniques such as green screen, cut to the beat and a bit of lip-sync.
RESEARCH: I looked at some songs that would allow me to use these specific techniques and styles:
Whitey - DRAG IT OUT
Whitey - DOGCULTURE
Between the two songs both of which come from the same artist I decided to continue with Whitey - DOGCULTURE because the snippet of the song I'll take from the song will allow me to create interesting shots with Winston (my dog).
PLANNING: The song should be illustrative/interpretive with a sprinkle of surrealism.
Illustrative/Interpretive/Surrealist
I will need to film the scenes that I will then be able to edit afterwards.
For an "Illustrative" section of the song I believe that I could film a dog (Winston most likely) sleeping under or at the end of the bed to represent the phrase "Sleeping at the master's feet".
The Phrase "Dogculture for you and for me" could be a lip-sync of the dog's mouth or the human's mouth moving hinting that both of them, living in the same room, are experiencing the comfort of being together.

For an "Interpretive" section of this song the following phrases hinted towards a deeper meaning making it very acceptable for the "Interpretive" section of my music video:
"Never take a step across the redline" points towards a safety boundary. A zone of no return to make it clear. The other two phrases: "These are hard times" and "Trouble in the gold mine" hints towards society being engulfed in a greed for valuable items (gold) and poverty (hard times). (This is my take on the meaning behind the phrase)

Last but not least "Surrealist" fits perfectly with the phrases in the image bellow.
Here I would like to (with the use of green screen) add a dog's face onto a human's body giving off the fantastic look that makes a surrealist music video and also, once again, point towards a deeper meaning of how dogs are like humans or vice versa.

Green Screen
The green screen will allow me to create the weird surrealist scenes and I'm currently looking into finding this equipment. I'm thinking of using Winston to run in front of the green screen or sit in front of it and then using his head I will replace mine making a weird dog person.
Cut to the beat
Very simple, I need to use a section of the song that has multiple beats or some drops that I could use to change the scene. Such section is (0:10 The Intro to the song) which allowed me to use my creativity!
There were at least 2 options I could choose from: Jump cuts or cross-cutting.
Lip-sync
Filming my face I will have to record the movement of my mouth to make sure there is realism when matching the movement to the lyrics sung in the music video. (Bonus points if I can do something with the dog's mouth)
