Structure/Lyrics Meaning/Any Initial ideas for the script

0:00 - 0:17

The song starts with the chorus directly which is unusual when comparing to different main stream songs that start with chattering/instrumentals.

These lines contribute to the theme of nightmares, furthermore, the artist may have a fear of spiders, seeing as they are mentioned repeatedly in the lyrics.

The two repeated lyrics, "Never, never gonna wake up", transmit the idea of constantly waking up into another nightmare or the fear that he might never wake up from the current nightmare, giving me the idea of being trapped.

(Initial Ideas): Top-down shot of the person going to bed

and when the eyes open we zoom into a new shot.

[Instrumental] 0:17-0:33 (Repeat of Never, Never gonna wake up (once))

(Montage of short videos / change of location / running? / confusion.)

(End of instrumental the MC can either wake up into, another dream / a dream where he sees past events / reality)

0:33 - 0:49

The verse feels like a filler that adds context to the bigger story. The music is also slower which puts emphasis on the lyrics making it easier for me to turn this part of the music video into an illustrative piece.

The first three lines talk about how the MC's mind is a place where his nightmares are created: "Where fears are raised". With this in mind (haha pun) I can use an empty room and fill it up with random props to make it look like a mess, with the addition of humans dressed in all black it will make the room creepy looking.

0:49 - 1:05

The lyrics are leading up towards the chorus (wow really? it's as if it's called PRE-CHORUS JOSEPH).

The character will be in a state of drowsiness and wanting to go to sleep, but he tells himself not to go to sleep.

I'm also thinking that creating an opaque version of the character that fills in the sentences can be used as a substitute for the MC's mind. (Ex: Marvel's out of body experience that Doctor Strange goes through)

1:05 - 1:22

The chorus repeats once more with the same music.

This time instead of already being in the bed I want the MC to walk towards the bed in frustration. The reasoning would be due to the lack of sleep the MC is experiencing which causes annoyance (and would you look at that hallucinations).

(Maybe introduce a spider figure now?)

[Instrumental] 1:22-1:38 (Repeat of Never, Never gonna wake up (once)) (Same ideas as above)

1:38 - 1:54

This verse is playing with the idea that everything the writer is going through is stressful while he is asleep. "It'll stay for awhile" is talking about the stress the writer will go through after he awakens.

I'm guessing that the subconscious is playing the villain in this song because it fades away suggesting it is the reason why the writer experiences the nightmares. It will also unveil once again when he goes to sleep. This is suggested due to the following sentence: "It'll wait to unveil".

Using unveil to my advantage the plan would be for the MC to unveil the nightmares from Verse 1. This is to show that everything the MC sees in these dreams are simply hallucinations/nightmares.

The Mc could also be "sweating" due to the stress they are going through.

1:54 - 2:10

The pre-chorus appears again and has the same tune and speed as the previous pre-chorus from 0:49.

This time I want to slowly move towards a better ending for the MC, showing how he is overcoming his fears and escaping the nightmarish loop.

At the time of writing I am not sure how I want the segment to turn out.

2:10 - 2:26

The Chorus repeats for the 3rd and final time. This is where the MC is at his strongest (mentally), pushing through the obstacles (the nightmares).

This could also turn into a montage of door opening which would represent finding an exit. The exit segment might take up the rest of the ending up until the new Instrumental segment.

2:26 + 2:33 (NNGWU)

2:43 - 2:59 (Instrumental Repeats)

2:59 - 3:28 (New Instrumental with Violins and Ambience)

But of course I'm not going to let there be a fully happy ending. As the music slows down in the New Instrumental segment, a bed surrounded by darkness will be presented to the MC. The MC, somewhat defeated, will proceed to go to the bed and sleep.
